Webinar with PowerNotes
Hosted by TCCTA
Posted April 13, 2022
PowerNotes is a cross-disciplinary digital reading & research platform that is built to help students enhance their online reading and academic writing efforts by saving and organizing the sources and information they collect; learn to avoid patchwork writing and inadvertent plagiarism; and assist in the transition from research to writing. By offering structure in the way that academic writers gather information, and with robust commenting and sharing features, it streamlines and makes visible the work and practices that students and researchers, whether novice or experienced, are already engaged in. And by unifying the steps of reading, gathering, saving, annotating, organizing, outlining, tracking, and citing research into a single, efficient workflow that feeds directly into the writing of the first draft, PowerNotes helps students develop processes for researching that is more purposeful and rhetorical, thereby easing the transition from reading for research to writing.
PowerNotes is offering a special introductory institutional price for TCCTA schools if licensed by September 15th, 2022, which provides a PowerNotes Premium account for all students, faculty, and staff at licensing institutions! If you are interested in learning more about PowerNotes and how to lock in the special pricing for your school, please reach out to Todd Rossell at todd@powernotes.com.
Special thanks to Todd Rossell and Jimmy Fleming, Directors of Business Development at PowerNotes.

Diversity in OERs
Hosted by TCCTA and OpenStax
Wednesday, April 21, 2021
Colleges across the country are reaffirming their commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion, in light of numerous tragic events over the past year and a much larger history of marginalization and discrimination. Ensuring that learning experiences are positive and safe for students of every background are top priorities at many institutions. There have been a lot of conversations around what educators, administrators, and support staff can do to make learning more equitable for students. But what role do textbook publishers and content creators have to play in all of this? How can textbooks and other course materials support diversity and inclusion efforts?
OpenStax, Rice University’s educational technology initiative, has published over 40 free, openly licensed textbooks since 2012. Millions of students use OpenStax textbooks each year. Committed to transforming learning so that education works for every student, OpenStax is working to ensure it’s textbook content is representative of diverse peoples, cultures, and experiences. In this webinar, OpenStax’s Editorial Director Anthony Palmiotto will share what the organization has done in recent years to help make its books more diverse and inclusive. He will also provide an overview of a content revision project that is currently underway. He will be joined by Juan Madrid of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valle who will discuss a translation project that he is working on to support the students at his Hispanic serving institution.
