Directions and Helpful Tips

Please review the following important directions and tips to best complete the TCCTA Salary Survey and check for errors before submitting college information.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Ten and a half and 12-month contracts should be converted to nine (9) month contracts so we can make truly valid comparisons.
  • Do not include employees whose salary is funded through grants.
  • Do not include compensation for administrative duties, e.g. stipends for chairing a division.
  • Do not include overload, summer, or supplemental pay. Report only base salaries.
  • Quarter-ranges should be based on the total salary range for the degree received; for instance, the quarter-range for faculty with bachelor’s degrees should be based on the total range for faculty with bachelor’s degrees only, not the total faculty salary range.
  • Total salary range should include all full-time faculty contracts (faculty working with at least a full load). See directions 1-5 below.
  • BA/BS+ are calculated as bachelor’s degrees.
  • MA/MS+ are calculated as master’s degrees. Masters plus compensation is further broken down on the spreadsheet (Columns A-D; Rows 9-12) for masters only, masters <23 hours, masters 24-44 hours, and masters 45 hours to ABD.

SALARY SURVEY SPREADSHEET EXAMPLE:

Separate all faculty according to the highest degree acquired. Take all the bachelor’s degree only faculty:

Example Bachelor Degrees: lowest actual, $39,667 to highest actual, $79,436 This difference creates a range of $39,769 (which you divide by 4 to give you $9,942 for each quarter range)

This would make the Bachelor Degree Salary Ranges: Range 1: $39,667 to the highest actual salary up to $49,609 Range 2: lowest actual salary from $49,610 to highest actual salary $59,551 Range 3: lowest actual salary from $59,552 to highest actual salary $69,493 Range 4: lowest actual salary from $69,493 to $79,436

Do this again for the master’s degree faculty and then again for doctoral faculty.

CHECK YOURSELF FOR ERROR:

  1. The number of faculty in each range (for each degree) will not be equal.
  2. You should NOT have blanks in Ranges 1 or 4.
  3. Did you fill in the spreadsheet with calculated range numbers or actual salaries? (Please use ACTUAL salaries.)
