GOOD-BYE NHMCCD, HELLO LONE STAR COLLEGE SYSTEM

The North Harris Montgomery Community College District has struggled with its name for many years. Part of the district is in Harris County and part in Montgomery County. Also, one of its schools (the first one established) is North Harris College, while another one is Montgomery College.
The overlapping names were a source of confusion for the district, which has 49,000 students from all over the northern part of the metropolitan Houston area. Also within the district is Cy-Fair College, Kingwood College, Tomball College, six satellite centers, and The University Center.
Recently the Board of Trustees voted to change the name to the Lone Star College System, after an interesting exercsie in online participation by members of the college community. Each college will retain its current name.
The change will take effect in January.
