2023 Convention Line-Up for History and Government Faculty



TCCTA’s 76th Annual Convention will be here before we know it! Here is just a glimpse of some sessions you can attend for politically minded faculty:

THURSDAY, MARCH 2ND:

  • 3:00-4:00pm: “The 2022 Texas Elections and the 88th Session of the Texas Legislature,” Mark Jones, Professor of Political Science, Rice University
  • TCCTA Banquet and General Session, 6:30-9:00pm: Building a Talent-Strong Texas: Our keynote speaker, Jerel Booker, will offer participants an update on higher education policy in the state. Among the issues he will discuss will be the state’s 60x30TX refresh, GEER funds related to a few strategic priorities, and college readiness.

FRIDAY, MARCH 3RD:

  • 11:30 am-12:30 pm: “Borderlands of the American Revolution,” Kathleen DuVal, Professor of History, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC
  • 12:00-12:55 pm: “Navigating Difficult Topics in an Era of Divisive Politics,” Michelle Deardorff, Department Head and Professor of Political Science and Public Service, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Chattanooga, TN
  • 12:45-2:45pm (Complimentary box lunch provided by our friends at Adobe!): “Workforce Readiness and the Mission of Community Colleges,” Ray Martinez, President and CEO, Texas Association of Community Colleges; Andy Riggle, Dean of Student Engagement and Academic Success, National University; and Carlos Martinez, Professor of Economics, Dallas College Join us for a panel discussion focused on overall student success—not only on campuses, but also as students begin to think about continuing education and entering the workforce
