Getting Started
Here are a few ideas to help you get started on the 2012-13 membership drive:
- Review the Great Ideas & Information for great ideas from your fellow Campus Reps, answers to member FAQs, and other useful information.
- Browse the resources on this page (see the links to the right) to familiarize yourself with everything available to you and ideas for how to use it. Then, download and duplicate what you need to succeed!
- Spend a few minutes going through the 2012 TCCTA Promotion Package we mailed you to get a feel for this year’s materials and plan your strategy. And, email the state office to have additional material sent to you if you need it.
- Enlist your colleagues to help by forming a recruitment team on your campus.
Jump-Start Your Recruitment Efforts
Here are some great ways to kick-off your recruitment campaign!
- Personally greet your new colleagues on behalf of TCCTA at your college's early convocation for new faculty (full or part time). Hand them A Special Invitation to Part Time Faculty brochure (also included in your package of mailed material), or the New Faculty Welcome flyer, depending on the event. And don't forget the New Faculty Retirement Resource Memo! The Welcome flyer can be customized with your name and the name of your college!
- Inform or remind all of your colleagues about TCCTA membership. As your colleagues return to campus, make sure there is a 2012-2013 TCCTA membership brochure in the mail box of each educator eligible for membership. The brochures included in your package are personalized for distribution to previous members.
- Get on the agenda at the first faculty convocation to do a brief presentation about TCCTA. Use all of the materials in your "arsenal," including flyers, brochures, supporting documents, and more. If you can, you may want to use this “Join TCCTA” PowerPoint presentation—which you can customize for your college—or one of our promotional videos (see links at right) to catch their attention!
- All documents can also be sent through campus mail if college rules permit!
- Talk to your college leadership about payroll deduction. Experience has taught us that schools that allow payroll deduction have an outstanding advantage in membership recruitment. This will likely require making early contact with your president or chancellor, as well as payroll officials. Here is an example of a payroll "best practice" from Amarillo College.
Handy, Effective Supporting Documents
Your fellow Campus Representatives have found these documents to be effective in membership recruitment, in addition to the 2012-2013 membership brochures in your package:
- Legislative Update (August 2012). Please distribute this flyer early. It is a one-page (if printed front and back) newsletter containing information on the recent Special Session, the outlook for the forthcoming Regular Session, and a message from TCCTA lobbyist Beaman Floyd. Includes and enrollment form.
- Top 10 Reasons to Join TCCTA is a concise list of the benefits of membership—another way of looking at TCCTA benefits and useful for distribution at any time.
- A Special Invitation for Part-Time Faculty flyer addresses the concerns of part-time faculty and lays out the benefits of TCCTA membership from their point of view. Includes an enrollment form.
