As we age our body changes because of biological and environmental factors. This presentation will enlighten us as to what we are to expect concerning these various changes such as life expectancy, physical changes, and regression of movement, balance and flexibility and how certain exercises and movement patterns can slow the aging process. There is a definite association between lack of exercise and cognitive decline. Let’s discover how we can age gracefully and use the knowledge and research that has been developed over the years to keep us ageless in the Golden Years!

"Student Behavior in the Classroom: Normal or Crossing the Line?"
Speaker: Becky Hauri. ADA Counselor, Houston Community College–Southwest
With the increased violence on campus, many faculty members are appropriately concerned about disruptive behavior in the classroom. Ninety-two percent of the counseling centers across the nation report an increase in serious student mental health issues. Currently in Houston the number of psychiatric diagnoses is twice the national average (Houston Chronicle). Texas still ranks last in per capita funding for people with mental illness according to a report by the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). When classrooms absorb these disturbed students, their acting out presents in the classroom. This presentation will help faculty members to identify abnormal student behavior, to set classroom boundaries, and to take action when confronted with an angry or troubled student who is acting out. If you have ever had a student in your classroom whose behavior was inappropriate, distracting or disturbing, this presentation is for you.
