Three (3) hours of continued professional education credit (CPE) will be offered by Austin Community College Continuing Education Department. CPE will be offered for attending all three accounting sessions: Accounting for a World in Motion, IFRS: Implications of the movement toward international standards, and How to be the next Accounting Idol: Tricks to teaching difficult accounting concepts. In this presentation Professor Susan Crosson will demonstrate how to use technology to deliver current, relevant, and pedagogically sound content to reach the modern learner.
Biography:
Susan Crosson is the Accounting Program Coordinator and Professor Accounting at Santa Fe College. Professor Crosson is known for her innovative application of pedagogical strategies online and in the classroom. She is a recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award from the American Accounting Association's Two Year College Section, an Institute of Management Accountants' Faculty Development Grant to blend technology into the classroom, the Florida Association of Community Colleges Professor of the Year Award for Instructional Excellence, and the University of Oklahoma's Halliburton Education Award for Excellence.

"IFRS: Implications of the Movement Toward International Standards"
Speaker: Paul Kimmel, PhD, CPA,
Associate Professor in the Lubar School of Business, University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee
Professor Paul Kimmel will present an overview of the implications of the movement toward international standards. In this presentation he will address the history of the convergence project, FASB versus SEC position on how to proceed, nature of changes to financial accounting if US adopts internal standards, and some key barriers of adoption. Professor Kimmel will also discuss the implications for educators in both introductory level courses and advanced level courses.
Biography:
Paul D. Kimmel, PhD, CPA, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and his doctorate in accounting from the University of Wisconsin. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee, and has public accounting experience with Deloitte & Touche (Minneapolis). He was the recipient of the UWM School of Business Advisory Council Teaching Award, the Reggie Taite Excellence in Teaching Award, and a three-time winner of the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award at the University of Wisconsin. He is also a recipient of the Elijah Watts Sells Award for Honorary Distinction for his results on the CPA exam.
He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the Institute of Management Accountants and has published articles in Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, Advances in Management Accounting, Managerial Finance, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Accounting Education, as well as other journals. His research interests include accounting for financial instruments and innovation in accounting education. He has published papers and given numerous talks on incorporating critical thinking into accounting education, and helped prepare a catalog of critical thinking resources for the Federated Schools of Accountancy.

"How to be the Next Accounting Idol: Tricks to Teaching Difficult Accounting Concepts"
Speaker: Jeff Slater,
Professor of Accounting, North Shore Community College
This highly interactive workshop, hosted by Jeffrey Slater, provides you with specific tips on how to teach difficult accounting concepts .Topics your game host will discuss include, teaching from back of room, supplies versus expenses, depreciation, closing entries, prepaid expenses, unearned revenue and many others. Participants will be part of the game show and have an opportunity to share their creative skills.
Biography:

Jeff Slater has been teaching Accounting at North Shore Community College for 38 years. Aside from being our acclaimed game show host Jeff speaks nationally about student retention. He is the author of College Accounting from Prentice-Hall.
