Events: 2008 Cosmetology Schedule
Friday, February 22nd, 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Friday morning the Cosmetology Section will learn about "The Importance of Texas Hairdresser Industry Involvement." Speaking will be Clive Lamb, a Dallas salon owner and presiding officer of the Cosmetology Advisory Board. Mr. Lamb is also a board member of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, an extremely important agency for the profession.
"This is an important time for hairdressers in Texas to band together and be vocal about the direction of our practice," says Mr. Lamb, of Clive and Co. salon in Dallas. "We pride ourselves on skill and professionalism, but often don't stay involved in the issues that are shaping our future. It is time for that
to change."
The speaker points out that one way for Texas hairdressers to stay involved is by attending or downloading (www.license.state.tx.us) the Cosmetology Advisory Board meetings in Austin. The meetings include an open forum for professionals in the industry to raise issues or contribute to the agenda discussion.
Other ways to get involved include writing letters to the Cosmetology Advisory Board and participating in online industry surveys, such as the current TDLR summer survey. Both of these options enable the advisory board and TDLR to gain further insights into ways to improve the cosmetology industry in Texas, Mr. Lamb says.
The presenter, as presiding officer of the Cosmetology Advisory Board, an appointed board of TDLR, has launched a campaign to encourage Texas hairdressers to be involved in industry issues. Mr. Lamb trained at two well-known London salons and eventually became an instructor at Jingles School of Advanced Hairdressing, the school where he fulfilled his first apprenticeship. He eventually became manager of the academy.
He has traveled the world conducting training shows in locations like Hong Kong, Florence, Frankfurt, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and Miami.
In 1985, after several pleasant visits to Texas, he moved to Dallas.
In 1997, Mr. Lamb branched out alone and started the upscale Clive and Co. Clients from all over Texas know the presenter as a stylist and business owner who is committed to client relationships and to flawless execution to bring hair to its healthiest, most beautiful state.

Saturday, February 23rd, 9:00-10:15 a.m.
Saturday, the program will feature, "Hey, Don't Forget to Teach Me Too!"
Speaking will be Patrick Zink, director of operations and leadership training for the Houston Independent School District.
Mr. Zink says, "Your students don't look the same or sound the same. How can you expect them to learn the same? Well, they don't! Each person is programmed to learn things differently.
"Our role as facilitators of learning is to make it click for every participant. That can be very difficult. Participants in this session will learn techniques that will enable them to develop and deliver curriculum that meets the needs of each learner."
Mr. Zink has worked to facilitate the learning process with thousands of employees and clients from some of the most respected companies.
He worked for Walt Disney World for over ten years and was responsible for managing the training process for the busiest theme park in the world, the Magic Kingdom.
During his tenure there he also delivered professional seminars to clients from companies world wide.
After working for Walt Disney World, Mr. Zink joined Home Depot in the human resources division.
He now oversees all leadership training for the Houston schools. Additionally, he is an on-air radio personality in the Houston market.
Mr. Zink holds a bachelor's and master's degrees in human resources management and is certified as a professional in human resources (PHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute of the Society for Human Resources Management.
