Friday, February 22nd, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

First, we'll check out the new world of Web design, with topics like Silverlight, XAML, and the new Microsoft Expression Studio, which replaces FrontPage. And have you seen the new Tafiti search engine? And you must check out what Vista can do with voice recognition.

In the programming world, wait until you see Visual Studio 2008, which allows you to program Office 2007. And listen up for new ways to teach with the new 2008 release of Alice. Version 14 of Office is already being developed for 2009. Together we will stay on the cutting edge!"

Ms. Hoisington is a full-time professor at Central Virginia Community College, with over 20 years of teaching experience. In addition to her teaching, she travels over 200,000 miles a year to more than 60 cities, speaking to college and university professors and K-12 audiences as a presenter and trainer for Microsoft Corporation and many other businesses.

Professor Hoisington is the 2004 recipient of the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in Computer Programming. She also serves on the editorial board for the International Merlot Online Project in education. She recently co-authored a book with Gary Shelly, Visual Basic 2005 and also authored the video projects, "The Guided Tour of Office 2007" and "The Guided Tour of Vista." Her newest project came out this November: "A Guided Tour of Expression Web" (the replacement to FrontPage).


Friday, February 22nd, 2:30 - 3:45 p.m.

Friday afternoon's program offers "Computer Forensic Challenges in a Digital World," with Michael Morris, lab director of the North Texas Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory.

This presentation will focus on computer information security and forensics issues. Topics such as educational requirements and employment opportunities will be discussed. Also, the attributes, course work, and skills that community colleges should emphasize to help students be successful in this field will be covered. How the FBI addresses law enforcement and computer information security issues will
be discussed in detail.


Saturday, February 23rd, 9:00-10:15 a.m.

Saturday morning the group will learn about "Building an Information Security Course for All Majors," with Gordon Carruth, professor of computer information systems at Montgomery College.

This presentation will discuss how to develop an information security course for students, regardless of their major. Issues such as course outcomes, assessments, and how to develop a WECM-based course will be discussed. Sample syllabi and handouts will be distributed.

Mr. Carruth has over 20 years of higher education teaching experience. He spent several years teaching for the University of Maryland in both Europe and Asia. His primary teaching focus is on operating systems, hardware, forensics and information security. He has developed two courses at his school in information security and computer forensics.
