Study Abroad with Tyler Junior College!
Submitted by Manoucher Khosrowshahi
The purposes of our tours are educational and fun. TJC projects offer participants an opportunity to journey to other countries to examine a situation first-hand, to see beyond what is communicated by the mass media. By joining one of our tours, students and community members have the chance to learn about unfamiliar cultures, meet with people from all walks of life, establish meaningful relationships with people from other countries, and shop. {Get started at your college.}
Lone Star College-Kingwood Philippines Service Learning Project
Submitted by Brian Shmaefsky
The outcome of the travel was to build an honors section of geology in which students study natural disasters in the Philippines and then work on projects with the Gawad Kalinga organization to restore communities devastated by the natural disasters. The service learning component integrated into the course teaches students how to use their academic
skills to help improve the lives of people displaced and made indigent by natural disasters.
