Coordinating Board Issues Updates

The Coordinating Board recently sent two updates to interested constituencies about new initiatives.

The first involves November as the Generation TX (GenTX) Month campaign, which combines the statewide College Application and Financial Aid Awareness campaign, the nationwide American College Application Campaign® (ACAC) Initiative, and the 60x30TX Texas Challenge to Reach Higher efforts into one powerful month. GenTX Month also coincides with the opening of the 2018-19 FAFSA and TASFA. During GenTX Month, students at participating high schools will be assisted as they complete college and financial aid applications (ApplyTexas and FAFSA or TASFA).

The second announcement concerns the new 60×30 educated population map. To support achievement of the overarching goal of the state’s 60x30TX plan, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board developed an interactive map to show how education levels of Texas residents, ages 25-34, are distributed across the state. The map, which is available as a hot topic on www.60x30TX.com, will inform Texas employers about talent pools and potential market opportunities. It will also help institutions of higher education to target outreach and other efforts, and will inform K-12 districts about levels of education within their boundaries.
