"Improving Transfer Efficiency: Development of Electronic Transfer Guides at the University of North Texas"
Speaker: Keith Fernander, Assistant Director of Transfer Admissions, University of North Texas
This presentation will introduce new electronic transfer guides and online degree planning systems for the University of North Texas. You will learn about the new tools designed for transfer students that will aid them in developing a transfer plan. The new UNT guides will also help advisor and counseling staff understand degree requirements for all of UNT majors. Additionally, the presentation will also provide a brief overview of the university and explain the admission process and requirements.

Creative Interventions in Grief and Loss Therapy: When the Music Stops, a Dream Dies provides truly innovative approaches to therapeutically help individuals work through and survive grief and loss. Leading experts explore creative interventions for common, yet emotionally devastating problems faced by those weathering the storms of grief after their dream has been destroyed. Therapists and counselors get the effective tools to creatively help people through the difficulties of dealing with death, addiction, trauma, changes in life circumstances, divorce, heartbreak, miscarriage, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder, suicide, adoption, and issues with children.
Biographies:
Thelma Duffey is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio and licensed in professional counseling and marriage and family therapy. Dr. Duffey also serve as managing partner for a multidisciplinary counseling and psychotherapy practice that has been located in the heart of Alamo Heights, in San Antonio, Texas, for over 19 years. Her style is interactive, and she draws from a number of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral, Relational-Cultural Therapy, The Enneagram Personality Typology, and Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT).

Speaker: Alberto Cordova, Director of the Motor Development Laboratory, The University of Texas at San Antonio
Biography:
Alberto Cordova received his BS in Exercise and Sport Studies from Tarleton State University, and his MS and PhD in Kinesiology/Motor Neuroscience from Texas A&M University. Dr. Cordova's primary research interest is in exploring the cognitive level of action processing in children. His work aims to explore the preception and action dynamics inolved in action processing. Dr. Cordova’s current projects also involve special populations (i.e. Developmental Coordination Disorder) where he is investigating brain structures that may be responsible for the disorder and developing observational techniques to assess the quality and quantity of how young children (birth to 3 years) develop. Of particular interest here is his current work with elderly and how exercise along with other factors may affect one’s development. Through these endeavors, he will understand more clearly the neural structures responsible for development.
