Biography:
Dr. Susie H. VanHuss is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Management in the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. She served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Carolina Community Foundation from May, 2008 through January, 2009 and as executive director of USC Foundations from September 1, 1997 to June 30, 2006. Previously she served as Professor and Head of the Management Department in The Moore School of Business. From July 1993 through September 1994, she served as Interim Dean of The Moore School of Business. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and her MBA and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana University. She has served on the faculties of the University of South Carolina, Loyola University, Indiana University, Northeast Louisiana University, and the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Her teaching specialties included business communications, administrative systems, and personnel management.
Susie is a prolific author who received a Gold Book Award from South-Western/Cengage Publishing Co. commemorating the sale of one million copies of one of her textbooks. Her work includes many textbooks in communications, keyboarding, and office technology. She has written a number of journal articles and has served on the editorial review boards of several leading business education journals.
She is a member of five national honorary organizations and many professional organizations and has served in various capacities in those organizations. Her biographical listings include Outstanding Educators of America, Who’s Who in America, World’s Who’s Who of Women, and Directory of Distinguished Americans. She received the Southern Business Education Association Award for Outstanding Leadership. She also received the YMCA’s Diamond TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) Award. She has recently been selected by the Girl Scouts of South Carolina as one of the 2009 Women of Distinction.
Susie serves on several boards of directors and advisory councils, including the South Carolina Bank and Trust (Chair, Compensation Committee), the Children’s Center at USC (Board Chair), the South Carolina ETV Endowment, (Board Vice Chair) and Junior Achievement (past Board Chair). As Executive Director of USC Foundations, she served on the Board of Directors of the five USC Foundations (Business Partnership Foundation, Educational Foundation, Development Foundation, Research Foundation, and Alumni Foundation). Previously she served on the Carolina Children’s Home (past Board Chair), the Central Carolina Community Foundation, Board of Governors of the South Carolina Patients’ Compensation Fund, the State Advisory Council of the Department of Commerce, the Committee of 100, Educational Resources Foundation, Air South, Seibels Bruce Insurance Group, Bank of Columbia, and Family Service Center boards. She also served for nine years as the University of South Carolina Faculty Representative to the National Collegiate Athletics Association.
Susie is a frequent speaker at state, regional, and national business education conventions. She has done extensive consulting and training for industry and education groups in 48 states, six provinces of Canada, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

"How Software as a Service is Changing the Technology Landscape"

Software as a Service having finally come of age, is now accelerating. New technologies in on-demand services are quickly replacing traditional installed license software by driving down costs and complexity. We will examine the new technologies of Software as a Service and cloud computing, and how combined they will continue changing the landscape of Office Technology in the years ahead.
Biography:
Gary brings 20 years of engineering leadership experience to Convio where he leads all software development, quality assurance, and technical writing efforts for the company. Gary provides technical direction and leadership to Convio's Engineering team in delivering a 24x7 service to over 1,200 non-profits for online fundraising, advocacy, and internet marketing. He joined Convio from Simdesk Technologies, Inc., where he was Senior Vice President for Software Development, Data Center Operations and Customer Service. In that role, he was responsible for the technical direction, architecture and delivery of enterprise-level highly scalable on-demand computing services designed to serve millions of individuals and small businesses in the United States and internationally. During his tenure, he was the co-inventor of several proposed patents involving secure on-demand services. He previously held the role of Vice President of Engineering and Customer Service for Pervasive Software, where he drove product delivery and had an increasing span of responsibility for customer satisfaction and product quality.
Gary is active in the Austin community supporting the Austin Children's Shelter and volunteering at Gateway Community Church. Gary holds a master's degree in Software Engineering from the University of Houston Clear Lake and graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
